This filter is intended for Volvo's without the "cabin filtration system" (recirculate button has "auto-on-manual" settings), however, it can also be used with Volvo's (I believe S60's, older S80's and definably with XC90's) with the "cabin filtration system" if you place this filter in the slot closest to the passenger seat and you don't mind not having the odor absorbing "charcoal" filtration part of the filter.

There are two slots in the cabin filter area of the volvos -

Closest to the passenger seat - 1 inch thick slot, for non-charcoal filters - example Mann part number CU2855
Furthest from passenger seat (closest to firewall) - 1.5 inch thick slot for charcoal filters - example Mann part number CUK2855

Differences:

with "cabin filtration system" uses thicker, 1.5 inch charcoal activated filter - inserts into back slot of filter area (towards firewall)

Without "cabin filtration system" use thinner, 1 inch pleated fabric filter - inserts into front slot of filter area (towards passenger seat)

Either filter works in either version of your car, many volvo boards indicate this, and even my dumb dealer installed the standard filter (non-charcoal) filter in my XC90 that was equipped with "cabin filtration system"

One caveat - the charcoal one has a better cutout at the top than this one, it is a molded plastic (at least the last one I used) and this one, CU2855 standard filter uses a piece of foam at the top to fit the offset cut at the top of the filter, be sure you put the replacement filter back in the right way as you can easily compress the foam to make it fit the wrong airflow direction.

I put this one in my car to try to allow the system to breath more as the charcoal units can block moisture from escaping occasionally.

Will put the charcoal one back in place after a few months.

I recently purchased these to replace the original factory cabin filters on my 2009 ML350. After viewing an informative video on YouTube[...]that quickly shows you how to replace both the cabin and air intake filters, I decided to give replacing the filters a shot. It took me about ten minutes to replace the cabin air filters. The Mann filters are the exact filters used by Mercedes. The factory filters even have the same part number (CUK 2646-2) as the replacement filter. If you want to pay about $100 more through a dealership for the exact same filters - be my guest! If you want to save some cash and get a quality replacement filter, then look no further then Mann replacement filters. Thanks again to Amazon for making the joys of owning my Mercedes a little less rough on my wallet. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that you must be patient when installing these filters. You have to insert the right filter first, then gently squeeze the left one in at the back of the filter in order for it to fit.

Anyone who has replaced one of these in an E36 BMW knows that it is about a one hour job. You have to remove the glove box and some A/C ducts. This filter contains excellent step-by-step instructions in photographs. Be careful when you remove the light in the glove box because it has a long plastic piece that extends from the light back to the button you push to open the glove box. It is easy to break if you don't extract the lamp assembly carefully. Installation of the filter is a little tricky because it's a very tight fit. I couldn't do it without using the break-areas already in place on the filter frame. That allows the filter to bend in three sections. Once the filter is in it lays flat in the holder. I guess that's why there are those lines in the frame to allow you to break it so it will bend a little during installation.

It is hard to rate a filter and even harder in the winter. Let me say this: the filter media seems identical to the original, but this Mann filter has a cardboard frame, just as is shown in the Amazon product photo. The original Mercedes filter has a plastic frame and a foam gasket. So does the picture in the enclosed Mann installation instructions. It is possible that the filter sold today by Mercedes at the dealership also has a paper frame. This is my reason for 4 stars instead of five. Time will tell if the cardboard flap seals on the Mann filter work well or not. In any case, I am pleased right now. I'll update this review if my opinion changes after pollen season this spring and summer.

Pollen season has finally come and this filter has worked great. I use air conditioning all the time due to allergies and the air is always clean in my car. My dashboard is black and rarely needs to be cleaned. This filter has performed exactly as designed. Make sure you pay attention to the airflow arrow. It can go in right or wrong. As luck will have it, I initially put it in wrong, but corrected it, as I did not notice the arrow at first. I will order another at the end of the year. This filter is easy to ignore, but it absolutely necessary to replace periodically. My airflow improved dramatically after removing the previous filter. I will not let that happen again.

I recommend this without reservation to anyone requiring a cabin filter. My experience with Mann filters over the last 25 years is consistent. They are excellent in every application.
